Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati

Saturday, July 04, 2015

The lives of saints can seem remote from our own. When I was becoming more interested in my faith from the age of 16, I found it difficult
to cultivate devotion to a particular saint.
That changed in my late teens when, at a
Catholic youth gathering, I heard a talk

St. Thomas More and the Dominicans

Monday, June 22, 2015

More at BlackfriarsToday we commemorate the Feast of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, two heroic men who made the ultimate sacrifice for the faith in the tumultuous court of Henry VIII. St Catherine of Siena

Whilst I was browsing the theology shelves of a local bookstore a few weeks ago, a title in the feminist theology section caught my eye: The Feminine Genius of Catholic Theology by Matthew Levering. This is not a book calling for a feminist revolution in theology, but rather one acknowledging the substantial contribution that women have already made to Catholic theology - so substantial that what Levering has done, in this succinct and excellent book, is to explain the basic tenets of Catholic theology, using solely female saints and theologians for explanation and elaboration. Read more
