Prayer Vigil at the new Rosary Shrine in London

Prayer Vigil at the new Rosary Shrine in London

Join us as we give thanks for the new Shrine and pray for our country!

In March this year, Cardinal Vincent Nichols appointed the Dominican Church in London to be the Rosary Shrine of Westminster archdiocese. This makes our church the first and only Rosary Shrine in England. Our church will now have a particular mission to promote the Rosary.  St. Dominic’s has 14 side chapels, each dedicated to a mystery of the Rosary. The high altar is dedicated to the Fifth Glorious Mystery: the Crowning of Our Lady as Queen of Heaven.

The Shrine’s inaugural  Mass will take place on Saturday 22nd October at 12pm. This will be followed that same evening by a prayer vigil in thanksgiving for the elevation of the Church to Shrine status, and for the renewal of the Church in this country. We pray that Our Lady will claim her dowry!

8:00pm   – Vigil begins with a Reconciliation service before the Blessed Sacrament
9.30pm    – Compline
10:00pm – Eucharistic Rosary Procession around the Church, pausing at each altar for prayer and meditation
11.50        – Benediction

For those who are super-keen, there is also the option of all-night adoration in the Lady Chapel at the altar of Our Lady of the Rosary.

  • There is no need to book for the event: people should feel able to stay for as much or as little of the vigil as they feel able.
  • The event is free but all donations are welcome.
  • If you need accommodation, there is a limited number of beds available for students and young adults at a local backpackers hostel, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
